Halloween for me..

October 31st, 2008

.:October 31, 2008:.

Relevant scripture on the issue
of Halloween and Christians:

1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 (”Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.”)
James 1:27 (”keep oneself from being polluted by the world”)
3 John 1:11 (”do not imitate what is evil”)
Romans 12:9 (”abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.”)
Deuteronomy 18:9-14 (do not learn to imitate detestable ways, including spiritists, sorcerers and witchcraft)
Ephesians 5:11-12 (”Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness” / “live as children of light”)
1 Timothy 4:1 (don’t “follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons”)
1 Corinthians 10:21
2 Corinthians 6:14-17 (”what fellowship can light have with darkness?”)
Philippians 4:8 (think about pure, lovely, noble things)
1 Corinthians 11:1 (”follow the example of Christ”)
1 Corinthians 10:31 (”whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God”)

The October 31st holiday that we today know as Halloween has strong roots in paganism and is closely connected with worship of the Enemy of this world, Satan. It is a holiday that generally glorifies the dark things of this world, rather than the light of Jesus Christ, The Truth.
Have you noticed how costumes and masks are getting generally more bloody, gory, and depraved each year? Unfortunately, the gruesome and grotesque and the occult are increasingly glorified in American society, not only on Halloween, but throughout the year in horror movies and in television programs.
My family does not celebrate it or participate in it. We do not believe that our children are “missing out,” and neither do they. Other days are used for costumes and parties. Happily, all of our children have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. We have found that Halloween provides an excellent time to remind our children that, as Christians, we are different, and not of this world (Heb. 11:13-16; 1 Pet. 2:11).
What about church “Harvest Festivals” held on October 31? Although we understand the rational and good intentions behind them, we don’t think they are the best approach. Our family tends to agree with the author of an article called ” Are ‘Harvest Parties’ for Christians?” (written by a self-avowed former witch and now active Christian). Harvest parties on October 31 tend to assume that “our children need something to take the place of Halloween, since they won’t be participating in the secular and pagan celebrations. It suggests our kids are missing out on something. And indeed they are, if we allow them to spend Halloween in celebration.” There are better things to do on Halloween than partying.
Also, we need to teach our children that “the fight isn’t against occultists, non-Christians, Christians who feel differently than we about Halloween, or institutions that promote Halloween, but” “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12, NKJV).

Baked, butter-basted chicken!

October 29th, 2008

.:October 29, 2008:.

Oh man you guys should smell this baked, butter-basted chicken I have in the oven! WOOEEEE!! It smells so good and will be ready in about 1/2 hour or so. I’m making flavored noodles to go with it. I wish I could invite you all over to have some!

Rick’s Aunt Dee died Sunday and they had the funeral this morning. Rick was one of the pall bearers. She is the one that had him come preach at her church a few months ago. It was the first time he preached in a long time and he was so nervous, but he did well. It’s been kinda rough. It was Granny’s sister and they were really close. There are 10 kids and Dee was the 2nd from the oldest. Granny is the oldest (Rick’s mom).

Doris, Deloris (Dee), Royal {Roy}, Marie, Lucy, Virgil, Bobby, Junior, Linda, Suzie. Suzie and Rick are only a few years apart. Granny’s mom and Granny were having babies at the same time. Rick and Suzie were buddies growing up. They were the 2 youngest. Now they are 46 years old. Suzie was at the funeral today..they have not seen each other in a long time.

Rick has been telling me neat stories about his family. Some stuff I never knew but this brought it out. Then I started telling stories of my Grandparents when they got together. I wonder if we will ever run out of things to talk about in our marriage? I don’t think so. There is always something new or something old and fascinating and it’s nice to just talk..even after 14 years =]

Time to go baste my chicken!

Crystal is 20!

October 29th, 2008

Crystal Rose Kilman is 20 years old today!! WOOHOO!! We gave her her birthday money and she chose to have chicken/fettuccine/alfredo for supper. Her dessert of choice was brownies. She doesn’t feel much different today. I think this is one of the most major birthdays anyone can have. They are truly an adult and have reached an age that marks the beginning of their adult life.
And I gotta go, tons going on here!
Did I tell you all 6 of our kids are living on the land?? YAY! hehe

Rick is in Chicago..

October 25th, 2008

.:October 25, 2008:.

Rick left for Chicago this morning. I am actually looking forward to the next 24 hours. I adore him but when you’ve been married 14 years, sometimes you just need a few minutes apart. Normally we can’t even stand being apart when he is at work, but I am really enjoying my day. I concentrate on taking care of him when he is home and the kids and today there will be no cooking, no making sure his every need is taken care of. The kids love to just get whatever food and today is one of those days. Rick likes certain foods, certain ways. It’s my 24 hours lol. I will be very glad when Rick gets home though, I love taking care of him! I’m just enjoying not doing while he’s gone lol

About the horse..last night we had 2nd thoughts, which is why we are doing the one week trial. Her boss got really busy and was not able to bring her out here but we are still going to get her for the trial and I think today is a new day and Em is pretty sure she wants her. She is seeing now why I wanted to do a trial run though. She just needs to be sure. She’s more sure than I am :)

Well, I am going to go make me a can of tuna w/mayo, mustard, chopped: onion, jalepeno, pepperoni, and grated cheese {no bread of coarse} before I work out! Hope you all are having a great day!

Another horse?!

October 24th, 2008

.:October 24, 2008:.

Ok my cousin recently reminded me that it’s been a while since I’ve blogged. It has been a long while!

Ok, first of all, things are going pretty good! Even though I have teenagers lol. Right now I am doing emails and watching the discovery channel: Destroyed in Seconds. It’s pretty freaky and neat. Well, not really neat for the people involved.

Emily has been wanting to get a 2nd horse for a very, very long time. She goes above and beyond taking care of her horse, Charlie and she wants me to have a horse so we can go riding together. Well, she works at the stables down the road (her boss is awesome!!), and he has asked her to buy a really good horse for $100. Normally I would say forget it, but this was just way too good to pass up! I did, however, tell her that we could take her for a week to see how it goes. She wanted to jump in full force with it and bring her home to stay, but I want my kids to learn to slow down, take their time deciding things no matter how bad they want it! They can’t just jump in and regret it later, especially with a living being. I mean, this is something Emily has way-proven herself in. I know she is willing to go out and take care of this horse rain, shine, frozen trough of water, etc. but I still want her to think about it and she is the one who is going to be mainly responsible for this horse even though she is calling her mine. I would not be getting this horse if it weren’t for Emily wanting it so bad bc it is a huge responsibility. I gave her Charlie bc she was just so dedicated to taking care of him in every way and she is the same way with her job. I’m 99% sure she will get to keep this horse, but I know it’s a life-long decision since we are talking about another life. I want her to be patient. And what if the horse is crazy? lol. What if it is not what we are hoping for? We better be sure :)

Ok I’m moving on past the horse thing lol. It’s just heavy on my mind since Jeff is bringing her tomorrow when Emily gets off work. Emily is about to go nuts with excitement!

Homeschooling is going great! Emily, Jessica, Rikki and I are really loving it and that has not changed..it just keeps getting better! Eli, Crystal and Rachel are doing very well also :)

Rick is doing terrific..he and Shane are going to downtown Chicago this weekend to witness to random people on the street. Please pray for them. Shane is my kids former youth leader..his daughter died in a car accident a few years ago and he made tracks with her story in it. They will be passing those out. They are very special. I wish I could show you!

Oh! Rick preached last Thursday night and he just did a great job! The church was very welcoming..the people were so sweet. Rachel sang and her voice is so beautiful! She just did fantastic!

Alright, it’s 12:23 am on Friday so I better get off here, turn the tv off and go to sleep! I gotta homeschool, plus the horse is coming today..not to mention the cleaning that always has to be done and laundry.

Rick will be gone to Chicago Saturday and Sunday. Jessica and Rikki sleep in our room pretty much every night so I will not be alone. Gabbi is going to stay in my room Saturday night also! YAY! Her and Lori (my sister) live with me now. I am not sure if I told some of you that. Anyway, I will not be alone Saturday night. Then Sunday night we are going to hear a missionary from Africa again..he was here last weekend and he is fantastic!! I am excited about hearing him again Sunday night. Rick and Shane will be back in time to hear him also. I will be so glad to have Rick back home! I am very spoiled to having him home.

Ok so this is good night..it’s actually morning, but good night anyway lol

Jesus loves you,

September 29, 2008..

September 29th, 2008

.:September 29, 2008:.

Good morning! I’m homeschooling but my kids are doing worksheets so I am typing in between helping them and working on stuff. I am babysitting Gabbi so I had the tv on unfortunately you can see the tv from the kitchen (where we homeschool) and Jessica is getting distracted so we had to turn the tv off lol. Gabbi doesn’t seem to mind. She is at the dinning room table coloring and singing :)

I have found such great worksheets on the Internet that I just buy ink every payday and print out worksheets to work on, plus we use the bible. It’s really great :)

Amee & Eli are still living in Grandpa’s travel trailer on the other side of mom’s house. They are looking for jobs. I am praying they find jobs soon!

Rachel and Crystal are still living at mom’s house and so is my siter, Lori and my neice, Gabbi.

Emily, Jessica and Rikki are doing great with homeschooling. It is really great to have them home all of the time! I can’t get enough of that! Plus when I go somewhere, I have them with me :)

Someone dumped 4 kittens off at our house and tomorrow Eli and Amee are going to Murphysboro so they are going to take them to the humane shelter. They are eating like crazy! Eli and Amee have court and are going right by there.

Rick is at work and I am teaching the kids. Emily took her work with her to town and is doing the worksheets and texting me. Jessica and Rikki are doing their work here.

Not a lot going on. Getting ready to close the windows and turn the air on. It’s getting kinda warm in here. We need more trees right around the house. We have a lot of woods but a lot of trees are cleared off the front part of the land where we are. We do have a few up close to the house.

Hey, anyone that has Facebook is more than welcome to join me!

I got stung in the face! haha

September 6th, 2008

I got stung on the face on Thursday afternoon LOL..I mean, I guess it’s not really all that funny bc I look ridiculous lol. Stupid thing flew on my nose and really was mad cuz he stung the crap out of me. 1/2 my face is swollen. I’m not sure what kind of bee it was. He was black with very faint and tiny yellow spots. He was not a bumble bee or hornet. I found the kind of bee it is..it’s a black bee and well known for stinging people for no reason. I’m just glad he didn’t sting Rachel..she was right there and swatting at him. He landed on her first. I guess he liked my big nose! haha

I’m getting ready to cook some breakfast. I normally make Rick meat, eggs, and toast but this morning he is going to make fried potatoes and I’m just going to make the eggs and toast. He is better at making fried potatoes..I know they are easy but he’s better at it, trust me lol. Plus I gotta let him cook any chance he will..VERY RARE! And that is sad cuz he is an excellent cook!

Rick is grumpy in the mornings..he is normally a big, sweet teddy bear but he gripes in the morning and makes me want to UGH. And the man gets up early! If he would sleep in maybe he wouldn’t be so dang gripey! Well, I know I’m not perfect but every morning?? You would think it would be just the mornings he has to work. But at least it doesn’t last long and he is back to his normal, sweet, sexy self soon enough =]

I think Eli & Amee are going to buy Grandpa’s travel trailer and live here. I sure hope so! I sure do love having them next door! It’s a whole family thing! My sister and neice live next door with mom, Eli and Amee live on the other side of them..all 6 kids on the land! I know I’ve said it before, but I am one happy mama, sister, aunt, step-grandma..!!

I better get to cooking! I hope you all have a very blessed day! Jesus loves you =]

It’s early!!

September 4th, 2008

Well it’s early for me! I feel so much better getting up early again though. I have been tired all of the time and sleeping in after Rick goes to work. I get up and make him meat, eggs, and toast and go back to bed, but hopefully the tiredness will go away and stay away and I won’t need to go back to bed.
Gotta cut this short. I need to go to town and get a few things. Will put off homeschooling later today. We do that sometimes and it works out just fine as long as we do it =]
Okay homeschooling is now done (It’s quite a while later by the way)..
Guess what happened to me? I got stung on the nose by a bee! My face is all swollen lol. I won’t even post a picture of that, I’ll just let you imagine what I look like with my cheek, nose, eye and 1/2 of my lip swollen..it’s hilarious!
I just dropped Emily off at work. She works at the stables about 3 or 4 miles from our house. She does such a great job. She has a friend that helps her and they are just really good at what they do. I am one proud mama!!
Rachel is looking for a job but no luck yet. I know she will find one though. She has a lot of charisma!
Crystal is layed off for now..not enough kids at her church daycare. She is looking for a job again.
Eli and Amee moved onto the land in my Grandpa’s travel trailer. It is great having them!
Jessica and Rikki are doing great! They are doing an art project right now for homeschool. They LOVE art! They get it from their dad.
I am making spaghetti for supper. Rick got an emergency call but he should be home around 6:30 or 7. It’s Travis’ patient, but Rick is on call after 3 so he gets to do it =]
My daycare kids should be here anytime. They are going to be surprised when they see my face~ might even be scared! lol..I’m scared! Nah, it’s not too bad. Not real attractive either, I can tell you. Rick has not seen it yet, but he thinks I look good at 3 am so even if he thinks it looks horrible he won’t say! lol
Well, I’m off to jabber on yahoo messenger {iloverick@ymail.com} and I hope everyone has a very blessed day!
Jesus loves you!
